South
America still is home of many aquatic mammals such as whales, dolphins,
otters, seals, and manatees.
But
some of these already are on the verge of extinction!
Their
survival is put at risk by pollution, ongoing clearing of the rain forests,
drift nets and gill nets.
Unfortunately,
there are only few organisations for nature conservancy in South America,
and financial means for long-term protection measures are lacking. Furthermore,
part of the local people are not aware of the threats to their environment
- which will consequently affect their own living. Therefore, we support
educational work in these countries to supply information on the necessity
of conservation measures. continue... |
