Peale's
Dolphin
(Lagenorhynchus australis)
Length: 1,8 - 2,2
m | Weight: approx. 115 kg
The Peale’s dolphin is a „boat-traffic friendly“
dolphin and frequently comes to ride the bow or stern wave of boats.
Still,
its ecology and population dynamics are poorly understood. The Peale’s
dolphin occurs in coastal waters of southern Argentina and Chile as well
as around the Falkland Islands. In Tierra del Fuego, the Peale’s dolphin
is frequently seen in or near kelp forests which seem to provide bountiful
foraging grounds. |
