Chilean
Dolphin (Cephalorhynchus eutropia)
Length: 1.3 – 1.6m
| Weight: 56 - 63 kg
The Chilean dolphin - or in scientific gargle Cephalorhynchus
eutropia - is truely indigenous to Chile where it inhabits coastal
waters.
It
is poorly known, from a limited number of strandings and observations in
the sea. Main characteristics are its lead-grey dorsal side contrasted
by a white belly and throat and the rounded dorsal fin which resembles
a mickey-mouse ear. The Chilean dolphin is poorly known which is partly
due to its elusive behaviour and its remote and difficult to access distribution
area in southern Chile. |
